The School

Rednock School is situated in the Cotswold town of Dursley. The site is a 11-18 mixed secondary comprehensive school with over 1400 students on roll. In September 2003 the School was awarded Science College status, providing funding for the school to offer more educational opportunities in Science, Mathematics and ICT for their own students, for other local schools, and for the wider community.

The Brief

The school was keen to install a large display system in the Main Hall (which also doubles as a drama hall) for assembly, teaching, open days, general training and presentations.

The system needed to be capable of running computerised presentations using PowerPoint and also Video/DVD. Audio was to play a big part in the hall for both the presentation system and voice re-inforcement. The whole system also had to be moveable to enable the drama productions to utilise all of hall including the staging.

SMARTeducation's Solution

Screen
Due to the nature and size of the hall it was decided that rear projection would provide the best result for this installation, therefore, a 10ft x 9ft electrically operated screen was installed. The casing for the screen lies between the pelmet and main curtains, so when the screen is retracted it is not visible.

Projector
The Hitachi CP-X1200 Multimedia Projector which boasts a fantastic 3,500 ANSI Lumens, allowing presentations to be shown in the hall with all of the lights on. The projector runs at 1024 x 768 giving a sharp clear image and is mounted on the rear wall behind the staging well out of the way of any lighting rigging and other moveable objects.

Audio
The audio system consists of 4 speakers to each corner of the hall and a mixer amplifier coupled with a wireless microphone. The sound system switches via the projector providing sound for PC and Video/DVD with the wireless microphone providing overall voice re-inforcement.

Cabinet & Security
All of the Audio, DVD/Video and PC equipment is housed in a secure trolly which can be bolted to the wall for security or just unplugged and wheeled to another storage area.
