HALL SOLUTION
The Aim
"Severn Vale School commissioned SMARTvisual to install a projector system in the main school hall. This was to serve a number of purposes:
1. To allow presentations to be made in assemblies without the need for an independent projector being sited in the middle of the students.
2. To allow the main hall to be used as a "Lecture Theatre" perse, allowing multiple classes to be brought together for a lesson with full AV facilities.
3. To allow information to be passed to students by means of an "Electronic Notice Board" that is displayed on the system during break, lunch, before and after school."
Procurement
"SMARTeducation was one of three companies asked to provide a specification and quotation for the system required. From the moment of the initial enquiry the request was handled efficiently and effectively. Site visits were undertaken during the quotation process to get an exact idea of the school's requirements and these were then transposed into the final proposed solution.
Once the contract for the work had been awarded, SMARTeducation were very good at arranging for the kit to be delivered and for it to be installed. Installation had to take two phases, allowing for scaffolding to be brought to site for the installation of the projection screen, and then a second visit for the installation of the projector system. Communication during this period was good and we were kept informed of the work that was to be done and when it was going to be done."
Installation
"The installation itself consists of the screen hanging by chains from the concrete rafters above the front of the main stage. There is a remote controlled motor attached to the screen allowing the screen to be lowered and raised electronically as required. The projector is mounted on a short pole attached to the rear wall of the stage. This is behind some of the stage curtaining so that it can be hidden when music or drama productions are on. The projector is wA?ired to take an input from a computer or video source via a face plate on the front of the stage. On a day-to-day basis the Notice Board function is operated by a computer in the school's reception area, connected to the system by cabling to the projector."
Results
"In use, we have found this system to enhance greatly the presentation of assemblies and other gatherings. It has also been used to great effect for school open evenings and has also been used by the Friends of Severn Vale School for their race and fashion nights. This system, when added to our theatre audio system makes for a very effective use of technology in adding to all aspects of school life."
